MISSOURI NOT MISSOURAH

I swear, I have been watching CNN all night and I have not heard a single person call the state by Missouri. They all call it Missourah. Did the spelling of the state change after I moved out of state? Is this the new journalistic standard?

What I remember from being born and raised in Missouri:

Missourians themselves are split on this issue. Missour-ah tends to come from Kansas City and the northern and western portions of the state, an area bounded roughly by Kansas, Iowa, U.S. 65 and Interstate 70. The rest of the state leans Missouri.

We've got a desker from Kansas who we always turn to for the midwestern pronounciations. Missourah is one of his favorites that we say "wrong."

My uncle was from some small-ass town in Missouri (though I can't remember what it's called) and played at Mizzou. Drafted into the NFL. Has traveled the country.

Still calls it Missourah.
