Damn. "Palisades Park" was written by Chuck Barris. And Freddy also sang the theme to "Where The Action Is," the **** Clark-produced summer show I loved watching as a kid. Paul Revere and the Raiders were basically the house band, but the show was really ground-breaking for showing singers lip-snycing to their hits outside of a studio. Really the forerunner to MTV.

Of course, my favorite part was when they'd go to Ascot Park and show clips of stock-car racing in between music segments.

They played a lot of Freddy Cannon on Sirius 60s on 6 (actually 73) today, now I know why.

I also remember watching "WTAI." Also Shindig, Hootenanny, Hullabaloo ...

Palisades Park helped set the vague notion in my head growing up that we’d go to the beach one year and there would be some kind of great amusement park right by the shore where I would hang out and meet a girl who would kiss me and then we’d date the rest of the week.

Among the problems with this vision of mine were that I pictured Coney Island in my mind and not something in the Jersey swamps. Also I apparently thought it would be 1949 once we got to the beach.
