I don't know if anyone here but me will much care, but I knew Wayne, he was a patient where I worked. Nice guy, great player. Former Swamper, played some lead guitar on Bob Marley's "Catch a Fire", in particular the solo on "Stir it Up" which got him noticed. Played with a lot of major names, lived with Joni Mitchell for a while, played on "Court and Spark", and played on a couple of cuts on the Rolling Stone's "Black and Blue". He was close to joining the band, replacing Mick Taylor, when Ron Wood became available and took the slot instead.

Nice guy, quiet spoken. A fine guitar man to his rest.

He was part of the Catch A Fire episode of Classic Albums Live, might be the only time I had ever seen him interviewed. Working with Marley, Joni Mitchell, Leon Russell and others is huge enough but how many musicians were close to joining the Stones AND Skynyrd? What a career.

I was bull****ting with Wayne after closing one day and he told a story from when he was living with Joni. They were at home and David Geffen and Bob Dylan dropped in. (!) Geffen had some kind of deal he was trying to put together involving Joni and Dylan, so Wayne left them to it, cleared out and went into the den and was sitting and playing guitar. Dylan heard him and came in and listened to him play and they were kinda talking. Geffen kept coming in and trying to get Bob to come back and talk business, and Dylan kept saying "In a minute' and not going. Wayne said that he could tell that Geffen was getting frustrated and pissed off, but he wasn't willing to get in Dylan's face. Every time Geffen went back to the kitchen Dylan would get this impish grin, eyes dancing. He was getting off on twisting David Geffen's tail.

Me, I'm sitting there and trying to absorb the idea of David Geffen and Bob Dylan just dropping by one afternoon. Granted, they came to see Joni at her place, but ****, he was freaking living with Joni Mitchell! /boggle

Did they arrive in a little yellow taxi?

So many great songs. Forever and Ever Amen, it still blows my mind that a man wrote He Thinks He'll Keep Her by Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Hell of a tribute by the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Normally wouldn't post a crowd phone shot performance, but this deserves to be seen and heard. The brass solos especially.

Best live band on the planet IMO. Always great to hear the awesome Mike Mattison out front. Here's a version with them and Dave Mason:

It amazes me how many artists who came up in the 70s are still touring. Almost seems like they make up half of the acts that tour annually. A lot of '80s acts are from Europe and you might see them once every three years, and seems even fewer '90s acts. Who might make a special tour every few years. Thinking about music today, with many if not most of the music being producer-driven performed with dancing etc. I just don't see a lot of today's artists still touring 30 years from now. Their bodies won't be able to handle the dancing, and I figure they'll use their fame in music to transfer to acting like we've seen many of those in the last 30 and 40 years do. Ice T, LL Cool J, Donnie and Mark Wahlberg.
