(Not mocking the plight of those at the Press Democrat, but either this is hopeless naïveté or it reaches a stratum of bull**** so extreme it makes the Trump White House blush.)

What local flair it has will be gone in a year, maybe two. Just another McPaper.

According to Wikipedia this was a New York Times company paper until about 2011 when the Times sold all their local papers tp Halifax, a company that was eventually rolled up into what is now Gannett. But a community group that included the widow of Charles Schultz of peanuts fame (Schultz lived in Santa Rosa) bought the paper in about 2012 from Halifax. Evidentially it remained a good local paper.

It sounds like the local owners got older and/or just felt like they could not deal anymore with the declining revenues and sold out.
