I was reading the Glen Hanlon stories online today, and the heds were generally the same: Caps fire Hanlon.

I began to think what hed I'd write if I were on the desk and came up with: "No Han-outs. Caps can Glen."

Is it too glib? Too lame?

Too hard to figure out what the news is. Glen Hanlon isn't a big enough name that people are going to put it back together once you pull his name apart.

Except for one thing, it doesn't say what the news is.

Like Babs said a couple posts ago, Hanlon isn't a big enough name (aside from Washington and maybe Detroit, where he played).

Sometimes people try to get too cute with headlines and lose the effectiveness of that cutesy head.

There are times where a fairly straight forward head works best. And considering that this story isn't much more than a lead roundup item or short separate in most papers, this is probably one of those cases.
