I thought the same thing the other night, but if he has five more seasons like the five he just had, he's gonna get in. He'll be at 150 wins (I know, wins don't matter, but you're not getting in with fewer than 150, please see Santana, Johan) with an ERA+ in the 130 range. That looks like a long shot, since he'll be 32 early next season, but he's a guy who doesn't rely on pure gas to get guys out. Thanks to his impeccable command and that curve, he's gonna be a pretty ****ing good pitcher when his fastball tops out at 90 instead of 93.

And Scherzer is in. He can start writing his speech.

Scherzer wasn't on anyone's radar as a future Hall of Famer as recently as 5 years ago.

If we are going to put him in based on 5 years of work, he needs to be Koufax/Pedro dominant...but he's not.

Yeah, but ERA+ is the one that measures dominance in his time, which is what we're talking about.

This is an academic argument.

Scherzer is a Hall of Famer.

And he ranks second in ERA+ over the last five years, behind only Kershaw (a Pedro-esque +192). He's one of the top two pitchers of his era, by any measure.

He might get there but his resume right now is comparable to some great pitchers that didn't get into the Hall, like Guidry and David Cone. Worse, actually since he has yet to win a World Series.
