Took the boy to Mark Buehrle Day yesterday on the South Side. Packed house. Perfect weather. Enthusiasm for the honoree at fever pitch.
One is reminded, first, what a regional game MLB is - I'm sure there are people in other cities a little befuddled that a guy who won't sniff Cooperstown gets the red carpet rollout. Also, one is reminded how important being a key cog on a championship team is to a player's legacy in a city. Now begins, basically, those decades where we watch those '05 guys grow old, just like I remember the '59 guys coming back for various ceremonies and occasions as I grew up.
I don't know. Baseball is just cool.
My 8-year-old asked for a Buehrle jersey as we were walking out.
