Well whaddya know.
He's got one after all..

Wow. I was betting that reply on the third post.

Yeah, Ace, you are way too late there. Heart is not something this board has in abundance. Guy has heart surgery, let's crack wise.
Yeesh.
No matter what you think of the guy, c'mon.

Ummmm, there's compassion for those who are capable of showing compassion.
While, yes, I wish him a full recovery -- geez, moddy, you can't tell me you didn't even think that same thought...

Let's face it: Slappy wrote what a lot of us immediately thought.

If Mariotti ever showed any semblance of being a decent human being, there'd be plenty of compassion for him. Given his antics, any outpouring for him now would reek of phoniness.

not true... most of us sincerely would wish nothing like that on anyone. Well, most anyone. Well, some of us wouldn't wish it...
But would that be something Eddie would write in his paper if Ozzie Guillen or Jerry Reinsdorf had angioplasty? says Slappy, leaving the ball out for someone to score easily...

That guy works way too much to have a wife and two kids. I don't buy it.

Even though I despise him, I hope he's OK. I'll be thinking more about his wife/kids though. More concerned for them.

I didn't say anything about "wishing" anything on anybody.

But the deed is already done. And a bunch of people jumping on and getting touchy-feely about Jay would be disingenous.

I'm not wishing anything on him. But I'm not having a candlelight vigil until he makes his next ATH appearance, either.

Agreed.

He goes in to the hospital and they do it that night.
He was pretty close to being in real trouble, I'd say.

Have you guys ever met Jay? I have, a few times. He's one of the most down-to-earth big-time columnists out there. And one of the hardest working ones, too.

This will no longer possibly end well.

Yes.
No.
Kent Benson worked hard too. Did that make him a great NBA player?

Well, Jay shouldn't be posting from the hospital.

Didn't say he's a great columnist. But I certainly wouldn't wish harm on him (not that anyone here is doing so). We may not be on his team, but he's on ours. The guy's got his faults, yes. Not visiting locker rooms and clubhouses, etc., etc. But I'll take his style over the ass-kissing alternative. We should all be fed up with the attitude we get from sports figures. Jay is cynical about them. In that town, who wouldn't be?

Again, not that all of his actions are defensible. Like the Guillen stuff last summer. But I think he's a good human being. A lot more approachable than a lot of the Chicago media guys, actually.
