Remembering legendary Wyoming sportswriter Bob Hammond - University of Wyoming Athletics
I did not know Mr. Hammond died this past December. This story is the first I'd seen of it. If it's a DB here, sorry.
Read his Boomerang stories for years every summer. I cannot believe that any paper wrote as much about its community sports - Wyoming, Laramie High, the Laramie Rangers, little league, etc., than the Boomerang did under his leadership. There were always 4-5 pages of broadsheet, filled with almost 100% local copy. They also put out (still do) a 40-page (approximately) preview of UW/MWC football every August.
Community journalism at its finest. I never met the man. But he was a giant in the Gem City.
