Realistically, how big is this place?

A buddy of mine has a poker table and a pool table in his basement lair and it works just fine. He doesn't have the bar, though, which might put a pretty big damper on things.

I vote pool table. My parents' basement has a pool table and poker table. The poker table basically only gets used when people eat on it.

All I know is I'm showing up at Hustle's new house, even if he doesn't invite me. :D

At least until Hustle's wifey hits you with a restraining order. Especially since she's the one with the cojones.

Nah she likes me (I think, at least). I know she likes my wife. So they can sit upstairs in the sewing room while Hustle and I drink beer and eat the deer we just killed with our bare hands. :D :D :D

(of course I don't drink)

I like bumper pool. You can probably fit one of those tables and a poker table in the room. Oh, and a trampoline. You'll need one of them and a slip 'n slide.

My office just bought a foosball table for craigslist for like $140. So there's a thought.

"I have so many comments. First -- this will be a classy mancave. There will not be a disco ball or field turf. We are grownups and can have real carpet and normal lighting."

You realize that if your wife is dictating the terms of your man cave to you, it's not a man cave, right? It's just a room you get permission to use. :)

Definitely vote for the pool table. And how about a dartboard?

Suggestions duly/dooley noted.

Stripper pole/porno booth: I'll just go ahead and leave those alone.
Fridge: The current fridge in the kitchen is old and loud; it'll be replaced quickly. But she'll continue on in retirement as Beer Fridge.
Putting green/hoops: I will have to make a decision between those and the poker table and/or pool table. The room ain't that big.
Beer trough: Good idea in theory; but if she pooh-poohed the more sanitary disco ball, I can't imagine that would fly. (Rumple: I'm way fatter than that dude and would get lodged into any sort of normal-sized trough.)

Zebra: I e-mail her a lot because she's in lots of meetings but keeps the BlackBerry handy. So once I got the list finalized, I just zipped it off.

Keep 'em comin'...

I'm just excited that two of my ideas were duly/dooley noted.

I saw the thread title and thought the "caves" in "Man caves" was going to be a verb. I'm that trained, I suppose.

Don't worry. It will be a verb and soon.

i've also recently bought a home with a finished basement....so many plans but for now all i've done is buy standard black frames and frame all philly related SI covers (some i had to purchase on ebay for a couple bucks). Obviously philly doesn't have the rich SI cover history that boston, NY, etc, do so i've also framed some covers from my college, and of athletes i really admire (joe montana's first super bowl cover, etc)...anyway, all in all i have about 15-18 covers framed on that wall....

Otherwise, my basement features a really comfortable couch and a bookcase full of live dead music.

Next step is mounting a flat screen on the wall (kind of long term until we get back on the savings route) so i can watch the various sports packages each year without threat of divorce.

This is the only cover you need...

Oh for pete's sake, I don't really like the term "man cave" but i am doing the exact same thing to my garage (no basements in California).

Mine will have:
refrigerator
bar
hi-def tv
ping pong
darts

I started at the beginning of the year. My brother and i put up rafters, a floor for the rafters, and now have an "attic" the size of the garage for storage. Hired an electrician for a subpanel, outlets, cables for satellite, lighting. I've put up drywall on the walls and ceiling. Next is mudding the drywall, texturing the walls, patching the floor, coating the floor.

It's been pretty fun.

Why no basements in Cali?

I don't have an answer. It's not a law or anything, its just that most typical houses don't. I am sure someone here knows why.

When are you going to invite everyone over for wine coolers and ping pong?
