We've bought a house - closed on Friday. A finished basement is all mine. Time for a man cave.
Yesterday, I wrote a specific list of things I'd like to install there. I e-mailed them to my wife, who apparently missed the smiley to indicate that, well, I knew I wasn't going to get all of them - especially toward the end when I started to get out of hand.
My list:
-- Wine racks (2), metal
-- Poker table/pool table (one or the other; space doesn't allow for both)
-- Bar with laminate or polyurethane top coat; racks for the hard stuff behind the bar
-- Supplemental beer displays/ads
-- Custom neon sign
-- Track lighting
-- Home theater/surround sound (satellites to be installed in track over TV)
-- Multiple recliners
-- Extra TV (perhaps several)
-- Stylish recycling bin
-- Pinball/arcade game
-- Level D flight simulator (like this but without the hydraulics, which would make it too large)
-- Disco ball (with spotlight)
-- Replace carpet with FieldTurf
-- Overhanging oval slot racing track
Having missed the smiley, my wife fired off this response: "I have so many comments. First -- this will be a classy mancave. There will not be a disco ball or field turf. We are grownups and can have real carpet and normal lighting. Nor will we place a flight simulator in our house. You have the game -- that is plenty."
We eventually straightened it out and she got a good laugh. I asked if that meant the flight simulator was cool; she laughed again and said no.
So now I have boundaries. Any further tips from the masses on building a man cave or what I should include?
