This has been a thing for a couple of months, ever since she was lapping the field during Ivy League meets.

This has been making the rounds during the past 12 hours or so. Thoughts?

I'm so relieved all the other issues in the world have been resolved so we can now concentrate on the big problems society faces.

Only marginal athletes should be allowed to be true to themselves.

Actually, this was brought up long before she won a national championship. It is just getting more attention now. Nice of you to drop in and post something inaccurate and useless, though.

I can multitask. You can't? I guess we shouldn't care about spring training or NFL free agency, either.

That's such a lame response.

An NCAA championship is a pretty big deal.

To be clear, the "we" I was referring to is society in general, alluding to the outrage I'm sure these races will generate from a large group of knuckleheads.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the comments I've read in response to this story are sickening. The bigotry and hatred directed at Thomas is disturbing. That is one of the many reasons this is worth discussing. We talk about issues of fairness in sports all the time. This is certainly a complex issue of fairness in sports.

Enjoy your culture war, fellas.

This is one of the types of responses that make it difficult to have a reasonable discussion of this topic. It isn't a culture war for everybody. It is about fairness. There actually is no way to be fair to everybody here, which is exactly why we should try to have intelligent discussions of the topic. We've got people on all sides, including yours, refusing to have that discussion.

Cool. Have fun.

Someday Thomas will be seen as a pioneer instead of a pariah. A tremendous amount of courage being show here, knowing ahead of time exactly what backlash is coming.

Some will see her that way. Others will say her victory was unfair to the others competing. Honestly, I believe both are true.
