The Mets have had issues like this since Minaya became GM, likely even longer. Ownership wouldn't pay what it took to get Pinella, so they end up with the bland pushover Art Howe. After that hardly surprising disaster, they bring in Willy Randolph, who tried to crack the whip with Jose Reyes, only to see Reyes quit on him and the Latino players go behind his back to Minaya and Tony Bernazard and get him fired.

Coherent team play can go a long way, even if you don't have the best physical talent.
