Lauer’s obvious replacement?

I’d they want a man, and want to stay within the NBC family, they really should consider Farrow.

He proven himself to be a reporter. He’s young and good looking, with a law degree, government experience, and on camera experience.

Women would like him, and would trust him. They wouldn’t be wondering if he was raping an intern.

One other guy would be Luke Russert.

He can cover politics, but has a lot of “aw shucks” appeal to him. He wouldn’t be out of place doing a cooking segment or a celebrity profile, and would have fun in the job.

Either one could be accepted by the audience, and grow into a star.

Russert left the network and is apparently in his searching to find himself mode right now. I don't even know where he is.

Again, one thing to keep in mind here -- this is a really, really hard job, and it has hundreds of millions of dollars riding on it.

Ronan Farrow has a surprisingly impressive resume but he's really short in the anchoring experience. I know he had an MSNBC show but I never saw it. Maybe he has the comfort level to take over... but if he was that good, he'd be anchoring already. So, maybe, but I doubt it.

(Also, I'm kind of amused at the notion that we wouldn't have to worry if Frank Sinatra's kid is nailing an intern.)

Luke Russert is a big fat no. He's nowhere near what he would need to be for that job -- and the fact that he pulled the plug on his TV career tells you plenty.

I want Ronan Farrow in some odd way as well. He's been a journalist in this whole movement.

NBC is also well known for hiring kids of famous person. Sinatra's kid actually has some chops for the job.

NBC will keep it in house - see how the ratings go, maybe bring Geist in for a spell, maybe Costas for a bit, weekend guy Craig Melvin. It isn't like Guthrie is a lightweight. A lot less fluff in her resume than was in Lauers.

But a guy who works with my gf — she works at a hedge fund with a lot of macho, men’s men types — and he said he feels like he has to avoid women at work now. Ya know what that says to me? That he privately condones the type of behavior that is now getting rightly pilloried. If you’re not given to sexually harassing people, I can’t see how the current environment changes a damn thing. I still smile at women and they do the same. There’s a good deal of hysteria of late, mostly from guys who were acting badly or at least tolerated that kind of behavior. That was never me or my friends, though of course you’d hear about other guys.

As to @exmediahack and the idea that Lauer can return from exile in a year or two: no chance, man. Him and Charlie Rose should launch a podcast together.

He's going to be over 60. His undoing is this - I imagine his female approval numbers have dropped a ton - and outside of sports or Fox News - if women don't like you, you don't get to be on TV.

It's a completely different world now in the sense Lauer is not going to be able to go back in 18 months. There's an avalanche of these stories coming out now. What was quietly accepted in the past won't be tolerated anymore.

If Carson Daly had more of a news background, he could slide into Lauer's role because he's certainly comfortable on camera. But being that Daly is more from the entertainment background, I would be shocked if it was him.
