Jena 6, Michael Vick, OJ Simpson and Duke Lacrosse are the civil rights rally cry for the current African American Community. Meanwhile another generation of black kids are falling behind in school, black on black crime is horrendous, the nuclear black family is the overwhelming exception to the rule and unemployment and drug abuse rate higher for blacks than any other group except Native Americans living in reservations. But The Reverends Fat Pimp and Booty-Call and their radio talkshow ptichmen are stoking the flames of the ignorant with Jena and Vick.

I want to say that you've got racist ideas but that's wrong. You have simple-minded ideas. If you are serious about what you are posting, it is simple.

Exactly. I don't know why heyabbott and others are trying to paint the "victim" as a saint. If you say something racist around black people, you should expect to get punched in the face.

It's also a fact. And if there was due process and the rule of law, there never would have been protests, outrage, etc., because the kids involved would have been sentenced and probably released by now.

A fight is when someone can fight back. It's an attack and an assault, at whatever level, when it's done without legal provocation. When it's 6 on 1, it's not a fight but an attempted massacre

It's really touching to see how much sympathy you have for a racist little turd who didn't know when to shut his mouth. **** him.

Better to reserve that sympathy for six kids who beat and stomped that one person unconscious? Look, if one thing is clear, it's that there are no winners in this situation. From the kids who hung the noose up to this incident, and all of the failure of the school and town to get the situation under control in between, there is plenty of blame for this mess to go around. The kid that got beaten should not be painted as some innocent kid who did nothing wrong. That said, making a remark doesn't give free reign for six people to jump that one person and beat him.

This situation was not a "schoolyard fight." A schoolyard fight would be one person squaring off with another and fighting him, not hitting him from behind and then being joined by five others in kicking him on the ground.

I really don't want it to come across that in some way I'm excusing what the white kid did in this matter or that I align with some others on this thread who have pretty clear racial biases. All I'm saying is that this wasn't a typical ol' schoolyard fight and the parties involved deserve to be punished. Most people around here would agree that some punishment is in order, but I don't think it can be said (as some have) that no one is asking for them to go unpunished. The commonly used slogan is "Free the Jena 6" and I saw footage of one of the crowds chanting "Free Mychal Bell." Bell deserves to be punished, because, no matter what was said or happened leading up to that day, it's against the law to strike someone from behind and then proceed to stomp on them while they're on the ground.

This is true, there's been very little middle ground from either side of this debate. Those six kids jumped one. That's a chicken **** move. It's sure as hell not worthy of a second degree murder charge, but it's chicken **** and they need to receive a suitable punishment -- might suggest the same punishment the white kids who jumped the black kid a few weeks earlier at a Jena party? Same goes for the racist ****s who hung the noose, which to me is no different than burning a cross or flying a Swastika in a Jewish neighborhood. It should be punished as incitement. No here deserves special treatment, whether it's a pass or irrational over-punishment.

AAbott, I talked with three African American coworkers about Jena. They went down for the demonstration. I didn't know this.
In the words of one, "The dirty rotten cracker got what he deserved" and he was talking abou the kid who got beaten up. Apparently, he instigated the scene and got his ass kicked.
All three said that while it is against the law to physically hurt someone else, it should be against the law to racially intimidate. None of us are lawyers but we all pretty much agreed that there has to be something on the Lousiana books that is Civil Rights related in that regard.

Apparently, the coaches are mandated to keep the kid out of the next 2 cross burnings. New High School rules as they apply to concussions.
