... in my bedroom. Happily hanging from the curtain rod over the bed.

I walked in there with a baseball bat, a broom and wearing leather gloves, but the damned thing just creeps me out. I couldn't bring myself to get within five feet of it.

Naturally, the local 24-hour extermination service hasn't called back for three hours. Any suggestions from the SportsJournalists.com community on how to deal with this little adventure? ???

Go in there with a damn blanket, grab it and take it outside, you pansy.

I'd use the broom, that is how I got rid of the tarantula problem I had last summer.

Shop vac that ****er, take the vac outside, and blow him out.

Seen my mother do it before.

Mice I can deal with. But I hate little ****ers that can fly. Ugh.

Whatever you do, wear the heaviest gloves and clothes you have in case it goes after you.
You get bit, you gots issues.
I'd wait and let a pro do it.

I'm telling you, open the window as wide as you can, then go after the thing with a heavy blanket. You'll either catch it or chase it out the window.
It's not that complicated.

How did it get into your house? That is what would freak me out. Maybe there are more or it is having babies in your attic.

Sounds scary. I'd need liquid courage.

You don't want to **** those ****ers off. Wait for a professional, but I'm guessing they're breeding somewhere in your house.

We never had them in the house, but we had a bunch who decided to live during the warm months in between the shutters and the house of my sister and my windows growing up. We had no mosquitoes, but piles of guano under our shutters that my dad had to sweep up about once a week. We counted the last summer we had the shutters up and there were probably 150 of them between our two windows.

If watching a baseball game on TV is more fun with a heavy dose of liquid courage, it goes without saying that so is chasing vermin.

There are a couple of Web sites that describe how to sneak up on a roosting bat and catch it in a coffee can or a cardboard box. That's doable, I guess. I'll just have to suck it up and do it. <shudder>

Please take pictures or keep a running journal and report back to us.

I opened the basement hatch a couple weeks ago while I was moving in a couch for my new basement rec room. Halfway through I got a phone call, so the hatch was open for a good 30 minutes unattended while it was getting dusk. I saw it for the first time a couple days later, flying around the basement, but the exterminator couldn't find it when he showed up. No more sightings until tonight.
