Does it have a forward from Eddie Munster?

If that many.

UPDATE -- Presumably, this guy, right?

I wonder if he'll get into those golden '80s an '90s days when the beat writers from the Sun-Times and Tribune made a secret no-scoops pact. They would actually share quotes and information.

Not the Rick Jaffe 90s. I can personally guarantee that.

Never been a huge fan of George Castle's writing. Nice guy, though.

I like George. I think most people do, once you get to understand him a little bit. He's exhuberant, to say the least. The kind of guy who, if you ask him what Ernie Banks' batting average was in 1967, you'll get that plus a dissertation on Leo Durocher's handling of superstars along with his thoughts on the Cubs' role in assimiliating blacks into Major League Baseball.

Not sure George ever found his niche - he should have been a color analyst. He'd probably be in the Hall of Fame by now - he'd be viewed as a passionate, slightly eccentric throwback.

I'm interested to read what he has to day, even if the audience is limited. Sounds like a labor of love project.

What's his background?

He's the Cubs beat writer for the TWNI. He's also written a few books, including The Million to One Team and Where Have All Our Cubs Gone? (both of which I've read).

Well, well, well, just skimmed through a few pages, and SportsJournalists.com is mentioned. Quoted, even. Don't know if it's only in the one spot, but SportsJournalists.com is obviously reaching farther and wider.

Interesting enough?

It's pretty interesting, being a combination of personal narrative in the newspaper game and a screed against the forces (management, market) making contemporary journalism less interesting. He names some names and does indeed talk about quote-sharing, non-competitiveness, etc.

How is SportsJournalists.com mentioned?

Just mentioned some comments on the board re: some topic and quoted a couple of posts. Didn't even really see what the issue being discussed was.
