So did the Times beat the Plain Dealer on this story? Wouldn't surprise me since the Plain Dealer has no reporters anymore. But still curious.

Spiders, Naps and Blues are historical Cleveland nicknames. So is Buckeyes, but that won't happen because of Ohio State.

I like Spiders or Blues, but they'd probably have a trademark fight with St. Louis with Blues.

Americans would work, just like the Nationals has worked in DC. Or the Towers, a nod to the Terminal Tower. Probably can't be Cuyahogas, because that's a Native American name too.

How about the Cleveland Fellers?

I've been thinking of this since I got the push notification. Honestly, Cleveland should be forced to change its name both because they're racist and bad. Like once you get to 75 years without a title, you have to start over at the beginning.

I'd be all for Spiders, assuming they could get the trademark past the University of Richmond. All I ask is that it end in an S.

Story says they’d keep Indians through 2021.

They’ve already done a lot of the hard work by phasing out the logo. The rebranding process, including uniforms, can take a couple years from conception of the idea to league approval. No need to worry about that.
