buckweaver, do you ever go across the Vincent St. Thomas Bridge from Long Beach to San Pedro? My biggest fear growing up in the LBC was I'd be going across that bridge and the "big one" would hit and the bridge would crumble and I'd die.

No, I can cross another bridge that's right over the San Jacinto fault out my way. I hold my breath crossing that one. :D

(Never been to San Pedro anyway. Anything to do there besides fall down a cliff surf? Boy, that was in bad taste, I agree.)

The good, ol' Guthrie interchange. I always held my breath going on that thing as well, especially eastbound 10 to northbound 215.

This looks really cool to me, but I'm not sure I could actually step out onto it. I never really thought I had a fear of heights until this summer when I was watching 4th of July fireworks from a 40th floor balcony with a few too many people on it. I don't think I'd want to pay to experience that feeling again on a much bigger (and longer fall) scale...BTW, I thought I'd heard it was $75 a person, not $50.

The Yahoo story I read about it said it was going to $25 per person.

Apparently, in reading a National Geographic story about it, it is $25 per person - but it's $50 to get into the park itself, hence the $50 reference, and then, because we know how to add, the $75....

The Tappan Zee is all but falling apart, according to news reports, but authorities can't decide on whether to build a new bridge or a tunnel. Or, more importantly, how to get the billions to pay for it.

driving across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge / Tunnel freaked me out

you're driving along and you just see the road disappearing in front of you into the water. and as much as you rationally realize there is a tunnel up ahead and you're not going to die, the view makes a pretty strong case otherwise to your brain

Is that the causeway to Galveston Island? It looks like it, except they recently demolished part of it -- I think the railroad part, but I'm not sure.

Mentioned the CBBT back on page 1 but didn't have any photos of it. Thanks for posting them. I actually enjoyed the drive, although it was a bit pricey. Cut off about 90 minutes of driving time heading to Jersey, though, so no complaints.

The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel is the freakiest one I've been through.

Fortunately I drove through it at night, so I couldn't really see the whole surroundings of it. But now that I've seen it in the daytime, I would have gotten a lot more scared.
What scared me the most while driving through it was that it felt like I was driving downhill the entire time. I seriously thought I was descending at least 2 or 3 miles below the surface.

I can second that. But a helluva, helluva view up there.

Yeah, if you live in South Hampton Roads, be prepared to deal with up to five tunnels (HRBT, CBBT, Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel, Downtown Tunnel, Midtown Tunnel) and bridges in all the colors of the wind.

And Bullrog, be happy you didn't hit that thing during rush hour. I guarantee you would have been stuck on either the bridge or tunnel -- or both.
