What's that one story you covered that will always stay with you?

Let's share some of the moments that remind us why we love this job.

When Chris Daniels collapsed and died in Dayton. I was covering his brother Antonio at BG. It was so painful for everyone. But it spun off into so many stories. 'tone was a warrior and I'll never forget his first game back when he sparked an upset of Eastern Michigan which was ranked at the time. The emotion in the gym was palpable. Antonio still wasn't doing interviews yet. He eventually did. But I did some good work for the duration. The biggest misstep was that my editor didn't send me to the funeral. He should have and later said so. I hold all that so close to my heart.

This is one of at least 100.

Fall of '99, Wilmington High at Black River in Ludlow, Vermont Division IV semifinals. Wilmington's 5'7 striker Fran Barone and Black River's 6'3 Casey Valente go up for a 50-50 ball. Refs whistle Barone for a foul and the Prexies convert the restart from near midfield into a goal to win 1-0. Awful hometown call determined the outcome in an intense and enjoyable game between two of the best small school soccer programs in Vermont.

Look at the photo for a few minutes. Fran got whacked in the head.

This wasn't about rooting for the team I covered because I never cared if the team I covered won or lost.

What I still think about 26 years later is why Wilmington lost that game.

Also one of the best photos I took back then. This photo was the story.
