(Rant started) ... AP, and Webster, and everybody, should adapt to "gonna" instead of "going to" and "gotta" instead of "got to." I'm sick of seeing/reading/hearing quotes where it's obvious an athlete said "we gotta" this and that. And the AP story the next day reads "we got to" this and that. It's one of the most awkward-sounding phrases printed, and it's printed on a regular basis. If 90 percent of the population speaks that way, why print what is proper instead of what your readers speak and understand? I get that proper English has its place, but why is "bling" recognized as a word but it's not OK to use "gotta" and "gonna"? rant over.
