When I was about a teenager or so, I mouthed off to a couple people much much bigger than me.

I got beat down into the ground.

I learned it's a very good idea not to mouth off to people bigger than me, or who have the apparent ability to do something about it.

This is a lesson the protagonist in the original video on this thread needs to learn in a big way.

I tended bar for nearly 15 years as a side job. I was spit on, slapped and had drinks thrown on me by women who were getting kicked out of the bar. I couldn't imagine decking any of them for that.

I couldn't get past my raising to hit a woman. Now if one of the female bartenders wanted to take a swing at them ...

(But I can tell you hitting somebody upside the head with a longneck bottle doesn't break the glass.)

Maybe, maybe, if you felt legitimately threatened with physical harm or death I could understand resorting to punching a woman. Spitting, while extremely gross and annoying, doesn't come close to that level for me.

And obviously it wasn't to the cop, who simply and calmly cuffed her and called for her ride.

When my older kids were 11 and 7, respectively, I splurged on one of those internet "hot fares" and flew 'em to Colorado for a weekend of skiing. In front of us in the line to check in was a woman and her teenage (approx. 15) daughter. Couldn't help but overhear what was going on between the two -- parents were split and the girl was flying to Denver to spend the weekend with her dad -- and there was MUCH tension. The mom was trying to tell her this and that, daughter was blowing her off; "We'll see what Dad says," etc., etc. Mom was getting aggravated and daughter was being a little twit. Finally, just before we started to make our way through security, the mom said something that wasn't remotely out of line -- maybe, "When you get back, if this keeps up you're grounded" -- and the girl spit in her face. The mother, her eyes welling up, simply turned and walked away. The girl, who because of her age was required to be "escorted" by a flight attendant, was just as nice as you please on the flight. But still ...

The whole time all of this was going down I wondered to myself how I'd handle it if one of my kids acted that way. Then my older daughter, seeing all of this, looked back at me with these "Can you believe that?" eyes and I realized that in all likelihood I'd never have to worry about it.
