Man flies lawn chair with a bunch of helium balloons attached 193 miles, fails in quest to make it to Idaho.

Sounds freaky to me, but I am afraid of heights.

God bless the crazy people living in the eastern half of the Pacific Northwest. They never fail to entertain.

You know how many people are gonna try this now. Cheap homemade aircraft. Can't beat that. But the best line was this one about the last guy to try this:

"Walters had surprised an airline pilot, who radioed the control tower that he had just passed a guy in a lawn chair."

I saw the A-Team break out of prison that way once. Only they used hair dryers and garbage bags too. And they weren't going far, just over the wall. Worked like a charm though. I love it when a plan comes together.

Bah, Lawnchair Larry pulled this stunt back in 1982...

True, but Lawnchair Larry didn't travel 193 miles. That is the part that is ****ed up to me. And the guy from Bend had to go over some pretty high mountains during his trek, which must have been pretty scary.

Damn, I'm relieved to see he kissed his wife Susan and petted his Chihuahua Isabella.

Oregon man fed up with pricey airfare

The photo with this story is worth looking at. I'm not sure whether this guy is my new hero or a complete moron. Perhaps a little of both.

BEND, Ore. (AP) - Last weekend, Kent Couch settled down in his lawn chair with some snacks — and a parachute. Attached to his lawn chair were 105 large helium balloons.

Destination: Idaho.

With instruments to measure his altitude and speed, a global positioning system device in his pocket, and about four plastic bags holding five gallons of water each to act as ballast — he could turn a spigot, release water and rise — Couch headed into the Oregon sky.

Sorry duder. My bad. I searched 'balloons' and 'lawn chairs,' wonder why I couldn't find it. Oh well.

No biggie. It is a great story and the photos are hilarious. As I said in the other thread there is no ****ing way I would do this. ****, I don't like to fly as it is, let alone in a lawn chair.

Your thread title sucked, 'gola. :D

(No, seriously. I never clicked on it, and had no clue what it was about.)
