I'm struggling to "like" a golfer these days. Does anyone else have that issue?

Used to be Trevino/Watson/Floyd/Nicklaus/Kite. I liked Seve, Stadler, Fuzzy, Payne Stewart. Never got into Daly, though others did. I liked Els, Leonard, etc.

These days, I dunno. Maybe it's because I watch it less. Maybe it's because I have no particular love for Mickelson, and Tiger...no. I get the sneaky sense Spieth's gonna peak in his 20s. Rory, too.

I dig Fowler. Kid's got a helluva game, plus he's got some personality to go along with it.
I like Spieth as a person. He's got a helluva game, and a good personality, but I just cannot stand to watch him play........quit with the.........waggles.......and hurry up........and hit the.........ball.........son of a *****.....

I like Fowler OK. Not sure he'll win a lot of majors, but he's likable. Zach Johnson. I like that guy.

Spieth's taken a turn for me. I don't what it is exactly.

Found myself liking Justin Rose a lot more after the way he carried himself at and after the Olympics. And, yeah, that 30-1 on Rose is pretty tasty.

That was ruinous nonsense for them to have contemplated reopening when every meteorologist in the South has been warning for at least 24-36 hours that this was a multi-stage system. If the course is intact and playable tomorrow, they should count their blessings.

I hope the course sustains no damage, of course, but this does remind me of the 2002 Masters, where it rained quite a bit, but with only one real delay. I should have guessed, but naturally, Augusta National doesn't use no-class chemical fertilizer. Parts of the grounds were, uh, aromatic.

I like Fowler and I've been on the Spieth bandwagon for a long time -- yes, before 2015. It's my one big problem with him. I think in time he'll pick it up and he *knows* he's slow. But it's a big drawback, no doubt.

Random Tom Kite story, if you'll indulge ... when I was a young pup, I was the sidebar/notes writer when the then-Senior Tour came to town. Tom Kite was leading late Sunday but rinsed an approach shot after driving into rough at the par-4 18th and blew it. The golf beat guy asked me to go grab Kite for him and ask if he considered laying up. "Laying up on a par-4?" I asked. Yes, the beat guy said, because a bogey still would have been OK for a playoff.

I knew I was in for a roasting. Squeezed into a little scrum and after a couple TV guys asked their questions, I asked Kite (obviously upset already) if he thought about laying up on 18. He stared at me for a couple seconds that felt like 10 minutes and offered me the saltiest "no" you've ever heard.

I really should have asked him to "talk about his thought process on his approach to 18" (/crossthread)
