What the last vinyl album you bought?
What's the last cassette tape you bought?

For me:

Vinyl: No idea. I'll try to look tonight when I get home.
Cassette: Nine Inch Nails, Downward Spiral, 1994.

Vinyl: Motley Crue's picture disc, circa 1985
Cassette: I believe it was Jesus Jones' debut in 91?

Further to that, what was the first CD you ever bought?
Mine ... and I'm slightly embarrassed to admit this was ... oh dear God, do I say it? ... sigh, here goes ...
Technotronic, she said, cringing.

Pump up the jam, Flash. Pump it up.

I have never bought a vinyl. My last tape was probably Wilson Phillips. My first CD was Boys to Men II, I think. Now I'm embarrassed.

Last vinyl: Carole King - Tapestry...for my Mom for Christmas last year.

Last tape: Hmmmm...May have been "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears.

First CD: "10 from 6" Bad Company.

Don't remember the last vinyl I bought, but I have all my old albums sitting in storage, so I am sure I could figure it out.

It probably wasn't the first album I bought on my own without it being given to me, but I remember buying "Paradise Theatre" by Styx, when I was 12 or 13, and thinking it was the coolest thing because there is a hologram on the vinyl that takes on the rainbow colors when you hold it up to the light. And yes, I graduated from Styx pretty quickly.

Don't know about the last vinyl album, but the last vinyl record was the Irish 7" single of "A Celebration" by U2. Looked for it for years and years, then bought it on eBay almost 10 years ago.

No clue on cassette. Almost never bought them. Still have a closet full of vinyl but no cassettes.

First CD: "Security" by Peter Gabriel.

I'm not sure about the last album, although I do remember buying a Doobie Brothers new release for $3.99. And since I have a boom box that plays cassettes, I've purchased a few $1 tapes out of the bargain bin over the last few years.

But the first CD was "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. That just jumped out out of the speakers in the digital format. "Power Windows" by Rush was right behind.

Last vinyl: Led Zeppelin IV (bought in 1988), though I bought a 45 of Zeppelin's at-the-time single only "Hey, Hey What Can I Do".
Last cassette: Probably Van Halen's OU812, though I made tons of my own cassettes until I got a CD burner.
First CD: Chicago's Greatest Hits, after I got a CD player in Christmas 1988. Still have it, and yes, I have no penis.

Last vinyl — Def Leppard, Pyromania
Last cassette — REM, Automatic for the People (I had CDs by the time this one came out, but nothing portable)

I'll still buy used vinyl if the album is not available on CD. The last one I bought was Warren Zevon's The Envoy, which supposedly will come out on CD soon. The turntable and the albums are in the guest room, along with a gazillion cassettes. I don't listen to them often, but I'll never throw them out.

The Envoy isn't on CD? Weird. I have that on vinyl myself.

The Buckingham/Nicks album that was used as a studio demo and caught Mick Fleetwood's attention -- and led him to invite them into his little band -- has never been put out on CD. A damned shame, too.

No shame in that one, Bubbler, if it's the predominantly white cover with Chicago's logo partially painted in. That's outstanding Chicago. If it's 80s era, that's some outstanding sh_t and your last statement above stands. :D

(Yes, I have first two volumes, when they still wrote their own tracks and sounded like Chicago).

last month i bought some original pressings of hank, patsy cline and tony bennett.

oh, and london calling, too.

cassette tape ..... hmmmm ....i dunno ... maybe kool moe dee "knowlede is king" or boogie down productions "ghetto music" ... both came out in '89

Let's see ...
I'm guessing last vinyl was probably either Kenny G or David Sanborn in 1987 or 88.

Almost never bought cassettes. Instead, I'd buy the vinyl and blank cassettes and copy them for use in my car.

First CD purchased in the summer of 1988 was Something Constructive by John Jarvis. An instrumental new age kind of thing and it sounded amazing on my then-roommate's really good stereo. And it still sounds great on my stereo or in my car. Jarvis is still one of the top studio keyboard and piano guys in Nashville last I knew.

Every once in a while, you can find Buckingham/Nicks as a bootleg CD (with a laser-printed cover) on eBay.

I got it for my dad for his birthday for about $20 (must've been around 2001 or so.) He had lamented about that one not being on CD for years and years, and then I found the-best-version-you-can-get-on-CD-anyway on eBay. Got him hooked on eBay after that find.

My first CD -- coincidentally enough -- also happened to be Aerosmith's "Get A Grip" in the glorious summer of 1993. (Hi SC! :D)
