I have just discovered "Fridge Wars," a CBC show transplanted to U.S. TV. I'm not sure which would be more embarrassing, to have my groceries appear there or on "Supermarket Stakeout."

I really wanted Amy Schumer Learns to Cook to be good - it is not. BUT, I do like her husband. Seems like a good guy. She's just not very funny on the show and he's doing all the cooking.

Saw some of that last weekend. I thought it was OK, but nothing else. Nothing I would ever seek out, but if it was on in the background while doing dishes or paying bills, I guess I could live with it for an episode or 2.

Would much rather watch some Beat Bobby Flay for a competition show.

he was on an episode of Man Fire Food and he was really good. He just seems like a really down to earth guy that would be fun to have a beer with. Agree, the show is not great because of her

We watch that too. The "oh, let me call my celebrity friend because we are cooking something he or she loves" is annoying. But we still watch.

We watch a lot of cooking shows and have always enjoyed Justin Sutherland.

He was injured in a boating accident over the Fourth. He fell out of the boat and went into the prop.

He's going to recover according to reports. Remains hospitalized. Going to be a long recovery.

Don't watch it too much. But Fieri has been on Dan Patrick several times and he always delivers in the interviews.

In Hawaii, there’s a dish called Spam musubi. It’s sushi where a piece of Spam replaces the raw fish. Never tried it, but it might be just your thing, MH. Whatever you’re drinking tonight clearly is. Enjoy.

Spam musubi was a revelation while I lived in Hawaii. Done poorly it can be awful, but when the Spam is grilled just right and the sauce is good it can be heavenly. That and manapua satisfied many a craving on deadline.

More of a fan of the Food Network of days gone by. I loved the old Iron Chef, the first U.S. Iron Chef with William Shatner, and the Iron Chef U.S. 2.0 with the original team.

The cake competitions were fun, especially when Bronwen from Austin was on.

Also a fan of Anthony Bourdain, the foodie equivalent to a louche, mellow HST.

Good Eats is fun from a geek perspective. I used to see Deb Duchon at conferences. She was the perfect person to be the nutritional anthropologist in Brown's little TV universe. Dr. Duchon probably forgot more about ethnobotany and foodways than most of my professors know/knew. She was a sweetheart who understood how very much like Hogwarts our discipline was.

I got put off by all the lifestyle/competition shows. Every now and then I'll find an old episode of something I like and watch it. Same goes for HGTV. I miss Carol Duvall's slow take at some ridiculous craft and the implied thought bubble of "What fresh hell is this?"

Dearly departed from cable (Whuzzat?) and sorely missed: FitTV and Planet Green.

When I was growing up Here’s Carol Duvall was on the Detroit NBC station for years. She always was the craft lady.

Flay caused some chatter a few years ago when he decided to take on The Biscuit Lady at The Loveless Cafe. Thing about Loveless is at one time, the food lived up to the hype. Hasn't done that for a while, but it was still a hit because the people who ate them up had never had a biscuit that didn't pop out of a can.

Bolton's, The Neeleys, and Prince's HC made biscuits that would make you slap your Aint Ruthie, they were so good. Loveless got too big and too busy and their food got too institutional.

So Flay showed up and either editing or real life showed him preparing to take an L. IIRC, it was a shutout for Team Grillboy. The Loveless people were gracious, but they looked stunned.

Been there once. Best biscuits ever.
