Will Ferrell could cement his status as the Chevy Chase of the new millennium.

Other than them both being tall SNL alums, I don't see the similarities.

They kinda have their own bumbling schtick and don't deviate much from it.

I love the movie, and saw it before I read the books. Chevy Chase really is utterly miscast, but it still works.

I really agree with this. I think if I had read the books first, I would have still liked the movie, but it might not have been the same.

When I read the books I pictured a modern day William Powell

Have to agree with the others that Fletch is a classic, so says my friend Mr John Cocktoasttoy (sp?)
God forbid they let Will Ferrell anywhere near this. Much like Springsteen and Dylan, I just don't get all the Will Ferrell love. Nope, don't see it.

No to Ferrell. Please no to Steve Carrell.

Fletch still remains my favorite comedy movie ever. Chase owned that role. But, he has sucked since.

I don't know who would be good in that role.

Hell, bring Chevy back for it.

Anyone have the Fletch DVD? There's a really good little documentary, lots of interviews with the cast. But apparently Chevy refused to be interviewed for it. I guess this was still in his bitter phase. Or is he distancing himself from Fletch, the same way John Cusack apparently - and improbably - hates Better off Dead.

Somebody mentioned Paul Rudd. I think he could work. He might be a little old if they do Fletch Won though.

I'm not sure Rudd is cocky enough to play Fletch. He's definitely too old for Fletch Won, which in my opinion, is the best of the books by a thousand miles.

Reynolds would have been so perfect.

They'll have to carve that 2x4 into a couple canes for Joe Don Baker if they remake this one...

Was watching SportsCenter the other day and Josh Elliott made a handful of Fletch references. Never gets old.

Apparently Joel McHale is at the top of the wishlist to play him.

I think McHale would be awesome.

My pick would be a relative unknown, named BRett Erlich...from the Rotten Tomatoes movie review show (and the driver who has to get donuts in a new Nissan ad)

They have to make McHale happen.

Keeping it in the Community, I see... :D But now that you brought it up, I could see McHale working pretty well.

Given the state of the newspaper industry today, they'll have to include a scene where all of Fletch's wacky expenditures are immediately rejected because he was undercover on the beach during a furlough week.
