Made it to Quebec City when I covered the Kings. When the cabbie realized me and another writer didn't speak French, he was less than friendly. He made a fast turn and we slid down a hill sideways. When we told him to take us to the media entrance at Le Colisee, he dropped us on the wrong side. He had to walk halfway around the arena in the snow.
The other memorable thing was the locker rooms. They were on opposite sides of the rink. We finished with the Kings and wanted to go over to the Nordiques locker room. We asked the attendant how to get there, he pointed toward the door in the dasher boards. We walked right across the ice. It was nice I didn't fall on my ass.
The good ole days. Like, assaulting the Stairway to Heaven at the Spectrum. You needed a sherpa and a base camp.
