Yeah, I know. Movie's been out since 1985. What was the holdup?

All I can say is that I'm going to the box for two minutes and going to feel shame that I hadn't seen this movie sooner. It's absolutely hilarious.

There had been talk--I believe Mizzou had posted these rumors--that if the movie was to be remade, that Zach Braff may have been up for the Chevy Chase role. Now, I'm a huge fan of Braff's but I'm not sure he can pull off the unrepentant cool smartass that Chase did.

Fletch: Do you have any caviar?
Waiter: Si señor, Beluga, but it is 80 dollars a portion.
Fletch: Well, then I better just take two portions of that.

The role Chase was born to play.

Zach would be biting off more than his precious self can chew, here.

Not a remake, but Kevin Smith has been trying to get one of the other books, Fletch Won, made for years. Supposedly less slapstick and more like the novels.

From IMDB:

Kevin Smith wished to cast Jason Lee in the title role. Harvey Weinstein wanted Jimmy Fallon or Zach Braff. Smith met with Braff, and agreed that he work in the role, but Smith dropped out shortly after because he was more interested in doing his own ideas.

Now the project is supposedly starring Joshua Jackson. No idea what its status is -- it supposedly was going to be released this year, but the project has always been on the brink of death.

Now bring me a glass of hot fat and the head of Alfredo Garcia.

I think a prequel is in the works.

Fletch Won I believe it's called. Joshua Jackson of Dawson's Creek fame is set to play Fletch.

Edit: Beat me to it.

Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in there between Nevada and Wyoming. You've seen pictures.

That's funny, I must have caught part of the same showing. Hadn't seen it in probably 15 years.

[Fletch to Gail Stanwyck, who answers the door wearing a towel]
Can I borrow your towel for a sec? My car just hit a water buffalo.

I watched it a little after watching the new episode of Friday Night Lights and seeing Dana Wheeler-Nicholson then as opposed to now was very eye-opening.

Wow. I never made that connection. Good call.

I won't say Fletch 2 was the worst sequel I ever watched, but if I ever do a Top 10 of worst sequels/prequels, it'll rank high.

Well, it takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am not a big man.
