Feds raid Jason Grimsley's distributor

Apparently they did a clean sweep down at this internet pharmacy in Orlando today. Not too many stories reporting all of the details yet, but buried in one I just saw. The Albany Times Union broke it first:

The Times Union of Albany, N.Y., which first disclosed the investigation, reported that investigators uncovered evidence that testosterone and other performance-enhancing drugs may have been fraudulently prescribed over the Internet to current and former major league baseball and NFL players, college athletes, high school coaches, a former Mr. Olympia champion and another top contender in the bodybuilding competition.

Apparently the Feds have at least a dozen pharmacologists and doctors in their sights, and they have evidence of illegal prescriptions going to current and former MLB and NFL players. We'll see where this leads... if they initial Fed side of the story lives up the hype.

1) Five years ago Signature had modest sales of $500,000. Investigators tell the Times Union a booming Internet market has increased that 70 times to $35 million in sales last year.
2) The Times Union, which first reported this story, says an Albany, New York investigator traced $150,000 in testosterone and human growth hormone purchases on a personal credit card belonging to a Pittsburgh Steelers team physician.

That's probably true. People expect (and accept) it in football. They don't in baseball. But at least when Roger Goodell does the dog and pony show in front of a Senate subcommittee next time around, he won't be able to hold the NFL policy up as a shining beacon again.

The rumor mill is in full motion. I have to say that I ignorantly jumped on a stupid notion last year when the Grimsley thing broke. Essentially, I somehow connected him with Greinke, who had played with Grimsley. In my full conspiracy-theory glory, I reasoned that their last names would have meant close proximity in locker rooms, at least on the road and possibly in spring training. Of course, Greinke had depression, so that factored in. I actually checked into it and discovered that I am an idiot. I was told by someone close to Greinke that I couldn't have been further from the truth.

Little did I know that there was a steroid link just a 15-minute drive from Greinke's old high school. Of course, this was an online thing, so it just as well could have been based in upper Mongolia.

Lastly, weren't there rumors already swirling about a Florida link to the source of some of the steroids that were making their way into MLB?

Yeah. Because obviously the Steelers used them all, no chance he sold any to JDV down at the gym.

Yes. Because of Florida's demographics, a lot of "fountain of youth" clinics have opened up and thousands upon thousands of older (usually well off because it's expensive) folks who are prescribed HGH.

I read this in Amy Shipley's story in the WX Post:
