I'll curse his name til the day I die. Trading Brett Butler and Brook Jacoby for him was the beginning of the end for the 1980s Braves.

I remember the 80s Braves being bad, but if you miss Brook Jacoby it must have been horrendous. Take away his 87 season and his caeer OPS may be under .700.

They won the NL East in 1982 and were well on their way to repeating in 1983 until Bob Horner broke his wrist sliding into second base in mid-August.

Losing Jacoby didn't hurt as much as Butler, though Jacoby would have softened the blow after Horner's injury and eventual move to first base.

The Braves had outfielders Brad Komminsk (a Dale Murphy clone) and Albert Hall (a speedy, leadoff type) coming through the minors around that time and gambled that at least one would be a star, so they could afford to trade Butler. Neither panned out, while Butler became a star in Cleveland.

Barker was OK with the Braves down the stretch in 1983, but blew out his elbow the following year after signing a 5-year contract extension and never pitched effectively again.
