I think this one would be more interesting than "favorite color analyst"

Let's hear it. For myself, current guy is Dan Shulman - love the work he does for College Basketball and he was great on ESPN Baseball.

All-time? Vin Scully.

EDIT: Cannot change the thread title. Meant play-by-play.

Christmas Eve 2008, I was pushing my daughter in a stroller down a jammed Main St. at Disney World when I hear this familiar, booming voice behind me talking to his wife/kids. I turn around and it’s Dan Shulman. We chatted for a bit as we inched towards the fireworks show. Two things I remember: he was an exceedingly nice man, and also quite impressive, physically. Probably 6’3” and in excellent shape. Would never have guessed that.

Mike Gorman is amazing. But if I had to pick, it'd be Baseball: Vin Scully. Football: Summerall, but for old school, only with Tom Brookshier as color man. Basketball: I think I'm Enberg for national, Chick for local. Hockey: Emrick. College football: Tie: Keith and Verne. Golf: This is harder to do because of the hole by hole deal, but as far as the 18th tower and major domo goes, I have to go for Nantz. Send brickbats to P.O. Box.... Boxing: Lampley or Tim Ryan. Utility man: Jim McKay. Dude could announce ANYTHING as well as the above super talented people on this list.

Me. (Thankfully, no air checks exist to prove otherwise.)

What an impossible question, because my mind keeps coming up with more and more mentors, idols and titans. I'm certain I'll add to this list. (It has a decided NorCal slant, mainly because I lived and worked there the longest.)

Vin is easily No. 1. He could make a snoring contest sound interesting. (Plus, burying a Vegas hooker in the desert. How much more can one man do?)

Voice of God division: John Facenda, Bob Sheppard, Tom Carnegie

ABC Wide World of Sports division: Jim McKay, Chris Schnekel, Bill Flemming, Jack Whitaker

Baseball division: Vin, Red Barber, Chuck Thompson, Mel Allen, Ernie Harwell, Jack Buck, Al Michaels, Lon Simmons, Jon Miller

Football division, TV: Keith Jackson, **** Enberg, Pat Summerall, Curt Gowdy, Lindsay Nelson
Football division, radio: Bill King (Raiders), Rick Weaver (Dolphins), Don Klein (49ers)

Basketball division: Chick Hearn, Marv Albert, Verne Lundquist, Gary Gerould, Bill King

Racing division: Sid Collins, Paul Page, Barney Hall, Ken Squier, Chris Economaki

I should've added Curt Gowdy. As a youngster, I called him every dirty name in the book. Listen to one of his games now, it's like listening to Edward R. Murrow compared to the 2021 crop.

Jack Buck, Bob Starr and Dan Kelly in St. Louis.

Jim Irwin in Wisconsin. The man did everything ... Packers, Badgers, Bucks and Brewers (filling in).

It's really difficult to pick from all the nominees here across all the sports cited here - - but put a gun to my head and I guess I would pick Keith Jackson from this All-Star lineup.

NCAA basketball: Endberg
NBA basketball: Marv Albert
NFL: Summerall, Ray Scott, Endberg
NCAA football: Keith Jackson
MLB: This is a tough one. Scully, Jack Buck, Curt Gowdy

My admiration of Bill King knows no bounds. Imagine, in one stretch in the 80s, doing radio for three major league teams?

Baseball: Scully, followed by Jon Miller.
NFL: Summerall, Enberg and Michaels.
NBA: Marv in his prime.
NHL: Doc.
College football: Jackson and Verne.
College hoops: With as many games as are on nowadays, nobody really stands out.

The best is always the one you remember when you fell in love with sports.
Marty Glickman. His voice was sports.
Marv Albert when he started out as the Knicks and Rangers radio guy. No one was ever better.
