Joe Beninati, Caps play-by-play guy on TV. I've always thought he's really good. I got to know him when I worked in DC and it helps, too, that he's a very good guy. I don't get to listen to him as much now that I don't live in DC and I'm always excited when the NHL Network picks up a Caps broadcast.

Besides seeing my kids and grandkids more often, being able to listen to Joe more often is a reason I'll be happy to get back to DC at some point fairly soon.

Rusanowsky is tremendous on the Sharks. Don't forget Joe Angel did a stint with the Giants before heading elsewhere, they also had Lindsey Nelson post Simmons and pre-Greenwald. The A's had Wayne Hagin before he went to Colorado and the A's current announcer, Ken Korach is really quite good - but they all pale next to Bill King. I liked Papa on the Warriors and the Raiders.

Special mention for Barry Tompkins - longtime Pac-12 football and hoops guy (and a dozen other things) - always admired how prepared he was for whatever he was doing.

Angel had two stints with the Giants, one in 1977-78, the last two years they were on KSFO, and another in the eaerly 2000s. Was let go when his contract expired and replaced by Dave Fleming. Korach will always have a soft spot in my sports heart for doing San Jose State football in the mid-1980s, including an epic win over nationally-ranked Fresno State and Kevin Sweeney. Nelson did the first few years the Giants were on KNBR, but never really caught on.

Tompkins deserves to be on any list. He and Dan Belluomni were a great team on West Coast college basketball. Absolutely solid on Showtime boxing. Also love how he'll go from a big fight or college game to do the CIF state basketball finals.

a few, but Bob Murphy was on the radio in my room every night as a kid and a lot of the time it was just because I liked him.

Unpopular opinion: Patrick/Theismann/Maguire is the best announcing team the WWL ever had.

Not a sportscaster but Bill Bonds had season tickets to the Red Wings, where you could find him in the concourse at Joe Louis Arena sharing bourbons with Oakland County executive L. Brooks Patterson
Bonds, who did the evening news at Channel 7 forever and was theatrical, to say the least, was one of many Detroit media guys to seek greener pastures and come crawling back
But he is immortalized for this, made during a short stint in LA
