Reimold is a streak hitter and for some reason the O's aren't very high on him (he's going to be 25, about time he gets a shot). Meanwhile, Wieters hit better in AA than A after being promoted. He hits for a high average, walks, has decent power, calls a great game, has a great arm ... yeah, I can't wait until June when he gets called up.

Saw some Matt Wieters last summer in the Eastern League. I would suspect that some of his value is directly associated to his position. I thought another player on his Bowie team was a better pure hitter -- OF/1B Nolan Reimold.

Can anyone with Insider tell me where Padres farmhand Kellen Kulbacki is ranked?

Is the playing field at JMU a launching pad? I ask because of that amazing season Kulbacki and Michael Cowgill had a couple of years ago.

It's been years since I've seen it, JD. All I know is that I always thought of Kulbacki as more of an average guy, and his final-year power numbers in Harrisonburg knocked me on my ass.

Yeah. I was keeping up with him in 2006 when LSU's Quinn Stewart went on a home run binge and was among the national leaders. Kulbacki finished with 24. Stewart and Cowgill each had 23. All season I was thinking, "What is going on there at James Madison?"

I was never a big minor-league/prospect junkie, so excuse me if this sounds stupid...

Why is David Price considered a "prospect"? It seems as if he's pretty much solidified a spot on the big league team. I was under the understanding that prospects were recently drafted/minor-league guys.

I might be wrong, but I think Price will still be eligible for Rookie of the Year in 2009, won't he?

You're considered a prospect until you've surpassed the rookie minimums, which is 130 career at bats or 55 career innings pitched. There's also a limit on how many days you can spend on the actve roster, but I don't recall the number. That rule is why a September call-up like Price, Joba Chamberlain & Jacoby Ellsbury can play in the bigs one season but be eligible for Rookie of the Year the next
