They're absolutely tolerated (though it wasn't on any particularly strenuous deadline in this instance), which is why I would never even call out the writer to my coworkers for it. Is job stress not tolerated?

Just seems odd to start a thread because you have to add information to make a story complete or otherwise pick up your co-worker. If that's his worst mistake, the guy had a pretty good week.

These seem like two very different things, though both are frustrating.

The first is a mistake. A bad one, but it sounds more like an honest error.

The second sounds like somebody making your life harder by not having his priorities in order and sticking you with his work. If anything, that would **** me off more.

Can't say I've been in your spot. Never worked on the desk. Have had sports editors stick me with their work in a similar manner, though, and it sucks. Then again, I've also had copy editors royally **** up my work. Not intentionally, but I can certainly sympathize with being pissed off.

Anyway, my intent was to possibly create a place where we could ***** about getting dumped on at work. It seems more than appropriate given dwindling staffs. That includes writers, copy editors, assignment editors and the rest. So I renamed the thread title.

Which is fine. And your complaint about the sports editor absolutely fit into that kind of thread.

The complaint about the writer? You don't really think the writer intentionally left it for you to put in the final score, do you? It is certainly a significant error. I did that once. My boss at the time told me if I did it again, I shouldn't bother coming back into the office as planned later that night. I'm fairly certain he was not kidding. I'm just saying one of your examples seems to be intentional while the other is an honest mistake.

When you included the writer's error, it seemed to me as if you meant this to be a thread for copy editors to ***** about everybody else.

Realized 5 minutes after I made my weekly call-in to a highly-listened-to statewide scoreboard call-in show that I'd given them the wrong final score (I was two points off and it was a blowout anyway, but alas). I'm sure I'm the only one who noticed, but sometimes, even the most grizzled vets make mistakes.
