Dodger Stadium assailants plead guilty, sentenced

I know there were threads on this at the time, but didn't see any point in digging them up.

Anyway, the two guys who beat Giants fan Bryan Stow nearly to death outside Dodger Stadium on Opening Day 2011 pleaded guilty and were sentenced today. One got eight years, the other four.

Seems like a light sentence, and at least one of the guys didn't appear to show much remorse:

"You are the biggest nightmare for people who attend public events," Superior Court Judge George Lomeli said as he faced Louis Sanchez and Marvin Norwood across a courtroom crowded with media and members of Stow's family, who wept and denounced the two men.

He noted that Sanchez was smirking during his remarks.

"This is not funny," he snapped at Sanchez, who said he knew that.

Why couldn't the judge add on the death penalty for contempt of court?

Or at least had doubled the sentence. I still don't understand how an assault with such consequences gets such a light sentence.

What the judge didn't tell them was they would have 400-pound cellmates undyingly devoted to the Giants.

For you or I, that would be a nightmare. For these guys, I doubt it's their first prison rodeo, and doubt it'll be their last.
