I'll be taking about 10 days leave in mid- to late-March, and Mrs. t_b_f and I were considering spending it in Denver for a couple of reasons: a.) we've never been and it's apparently a pretty cool town; b.) I can fly straight there and she can drive the six-and-some-change hours from Manhattan, saving me a couple of days of leave (critical time at work, and I need to minimize time away).

The weather is the first concern. From what I gather, temps will range from around freezing at night to the low 50s during the day. Chances of light snow are around 25 percent each day. Is this correct?

That will be a significant weather change for me, so I want to ensure there are enough inside activities to keep both me out of the cold and the kids occupied.

Can anyone tell me what tripadvisor hasn't? @MileHigh, maybe?

Drive from Manhattan to Denver in six-plus hours? That doesn't seem possible.

March is probably the craziest weather month in Denver and along the Front Range. Be prepared for anything. Temps in the mid 70s to big, big snows (snowiest month in Denver). It's a crap shoot. And a 25 percent chance of snow any given day is pretty high. By mid-to-late March it shouldn't be too cold even with snow. There should be plenty to do though, even if it isn't super warm -- good museums, the zoo, the Denver Mint. Mountains a short trip as with other close by cities most with something to offer -- outdoors, breweries, etc. The weather here is usually pretty nice and if you're here more than a few days you'll likely get something decent.

I was disappointed in the Denver Art Museum, but the little art museum in Colorado Springs is fantastic.

Your wife is not driving from Manhattan, KS to Denver in 6 hours, let alone Manhattan, NY unless her name is Farrah Fawcett and she's part of the Cannonball Run.

Manhattan, KS - I didn't think of that.

Man, you can't drop a 'Manhattan' with no context or caveat and expect someone to come up with Manhattan, KS.

Denver isn't that cool, especially in March. Traffic is awful and not much do that time of year unless you like museums or drinking craft beer. Better to head up to Breckenridge that time of year.

It had context! The 6-and-some-change hour drive! Only one Manhattan makes sense for that...

And for the record, seems doable:

+1 for Breckenridge in March.
Wait til summer, go to Red Rocks for a couple shows. Take in a Rockies game.

Come on.
If I say 'Manhattan' without the 'KS' even people who live in Manhattan, KS, think I'm talking about the real Manhattan.

We're not L.A. yet. Agree on going to Breck that time of year. But there's still plenty to do here, even in March.

March is, technically, the snowiest month of the year here at 5,280. April and May the past two years have been pretty rough, actually.

tbf, distillery tour. Leopold Bros. run by a friend of mine. Highly recommended. I can put you in touch - might be able to get you a more of a "behind the scenes" tour than their standard tours.

They make all kinds of small batches, including Apertivo, Absinthe, Navy Strength Gin, Maryland Rye Whiskey, lots of tasty liqueurs, etc.

There could be a blizzard. You could be in shorts. March is goofy around here, weather-wise. Much like October, though I prefer October.

Yes, it's a cool town. PM me or post here on what you guys like/are looking for, though I'm not an expert guide on the 420. You won't be hiking that time of year, no matter the weather. Actually, even if it snows in March, it will be gone in 24 hours. It's a heavy/wet snow that time of year. We're not hunkered in like Gee is in Boston after Halloween until Memorial Day.

Red Rocks is cool. Garden of the Gods. Depends how much you're willing to go out of the city. There's skiing, drinking, gambling, breweries within a short distance. Food options range from the predictable (lots of steak places; we're still a cowtown at heart) to the off-the-charts (Buckhorn Exchange) to spots in between depending on tastes/desires.

I live in Breck. Lots of stuff to do if you won't want to hit the hill. But, it will be a **** show. Driving through town is not fun. Avoid main street in a car at all costs. We have a great free buss system. It could be bluebird and 35/40* or a blizzard with ridiculous amounts of wind. March is very snowy, but we also get lots of sunny nice days.

Speaking of weather - it's going to be high 50s/low 60s on Friday in Denver. Heading down the hill to get in some road cycling. It's going to be glorious.

If you want advice if you come up to Summit, just let me know! Happy to help.
