OK, I'm single and don't have time to go to bars w/ friends to hook me up with their lady-friends, plus, 90% of the time in my experience, the chick is either a) psycho or b) a ***** that's using you just for drinks. Is there a good dating site out there that's either free or really, really inexpensive?

PS - Myspace is in large part, a dead-end. Too much bull**** and not enough substance.

I tried jdate.com for a while, but couldn't find the right "chosen" girl who,

1) is a point guard
2) loves baseball
3) likes to play soccer
4) enjoys a good game of "find the afikomen"
5) makes matzo ball soup like no other
6) can put up with me

Dear PhilaYank,

chemistry.com and match.com are alright, although full of freaky men. Don't know about the women though.

Don't use eharmony. It HATES sports journalists. Ask Pallister

You need the Internet to converse with people you'd never normally meet in real life? You los ... oh, wait. Dammit.

The free/extremely cheap sites tend to suck. Cough up the dough for Match or Yahoo Personals for a month or two.

Chicks dig webmasters... start a web site and they will flock to you.

if only that were true

Seeing as how I met my wife off of match.com, I gotta swear by that one. Not only was it a fairly cheap site ($89.95 a year, which is like $7 a month), I did get more than a few dates off there before I met the future Mrs. Batman.
You've GOT to have patience with it, though. I think they have something in their system that prevents non-members from e-mailing you back. I'd use the shotgun approach -- take one evening, and e-mail five or six women who looked dateable -- every so often, and I was lucky if one wrote back.
At least, I like to think the reason they never wrote back was because they couldn't ::)

I'll echo Batman's endorsement of Match. I did eharmony sporadically for a few years with very little success.

Met someone on Match back in February and it's very likely she'll be Mrs. Omar at some point.

Shouldn't that be Mr. Omar? ;D

Wow. Damn glad I'm not single any more.

Why?

This thread reminded me how difficult it was to meet women when I was single.

I spent all my time at bars or at work, therefore that's where I met all my women - which aren't the best two places in the bar to meet women. Though I did meet my wife at work and took her to a bar for our first "date."

Online's the way to go.

I met a girl over the internet once ... it was nearly 10 years ago on some kind of writing site (this is my first message board) ... and we just hit it off, so we met and it turned out she completely lied to me about everything from the picture she sent me to the fact that she was married but separated.

I would never do it again. I was actually heartbroken over it for awhile until I started dating my coworker a week later.
