Just checked D1's RPI page today. What in holy hell has happened to the traditional west coast power teams?

Southern Cal: 89.
Arizona State: 97.
Pepperdine: 103
Long Beach State: 106.

Not long ago, that would have made a kick-ass regional.

Throw Fullerton into that mix.

Canisius has an oddly-shaped field as well. Home plate is in the lower left corner. They get a lot of use out of a small area in a land-locked part of Buffalo.

A temporary right-field fence is used during baseball, running roughly on a line with the 18-yard box of the soccer field.

My high school baseball field used to look like this except swap the left and right fields. I think it was deeper to left, too, although I did see over the fence home runs happen. The right field porch was so short that I saw homers over the houses across the street. Since I went there they did at least start putting a fence in center for baseball games. Not much they can do about right field, though.

New D1baseball Top 25 is out and Virginia Tech is ranked No. 8? Awesome stretch after a middling start ... series win at UNC, win at Notre Dame (rest of series canceled due to weather), series win against N.C. State, road win against a good Liberty team and a series win over Miami at home. Could be in line to host a regional.

Vitiello is lucky it's just 4 games.

Nevertheless, I chuckled at the sudden, electric-wire like jump taken by the ump upon contact.

Tennessee outscored 'em 24-6 the next two games without that ump behind the plate. :)

Pitcher suspended four games, the batter two; and here's why Weatherford players never jumped in:

"The league suspended for two games “all team members for NCTC that were in the dugout or bullpen” and any assistant coaches who stepped onto the field. It also suspended four additional Weatherford players and assistant coaches for two games.

If that leaves North Central Texas without enough players for its next two games against Weatherford, it will have to forfeit, the league said. Both teams were ordered to forfeit the game that was stopped."

ESPN pointed out that an umpire appeared to be signalling something about the hitter as he was approaching third.
