Is anyone as stupified as me at the coverage of this? So he said the word "****". Who cares. CNN is running it in the top module. They are passing it off as a "frustrated expletive" over the situation in the middle east, but it's not like he said anything of any grand importance.

It's like we're all a bunch of 5th graders. ::)

I agree.
Although I wish he'd finished chewing that roll before he said what he said.

Yes. CNN is Beavis, MSNBC is Butthead and Geroge W. Bush just said beaver.

Uhhh, huhuh, huhuhuhuh. uhhh, huhuh.
::)

Hey, that just makes him seem like the common 'Merican that he is. I bet this'll boost his popularity back up in the 40s!

Is there such a thing as a mild sarcasm font?

I'm a bit surprised since I don't think anyone on earth should be scolded for saying the word ****. However, since the man props himself up as some disciple from god and he ran on a ticket of high handed morality, why wouldn't a big deal be made?

Shouldn't this public obscenity result in a hefty FCC fine?
I'm writing a letter!

Because saying "****" doesn't make you not a person of god, nor does it have anything to do with morality. If he said, "I like doing young boys in the ****ter," then there'd be a reason to get worked up.

Pern, had he said that, he would be considered for Catholic Priesthood. (I kid of course)

And yes, this indeed does have to do with morality. It has been hammered to no end that there are words you can and cannot say. The reason those words cannot be said is because "they are bad." As such, it is immoral.

I keep watching the video and thinking it has to be a prank.  Seven years as president, and the guy still talks with his mouth full of food....and he chews with his mouth open, in Tony Blair's face.

Guess it's better than puking on the Japanese prime minister, but still.

Gotta wonder how many heads of state will no longer speak to Bush in public places, knowing their words are being inadvertently broadcast around the world.

Considering the ridiculous apprroach the FCC is taking right now, where they're reported to be reviewing tapes of old games to try and catch the crowd yelling bull**** and fine braodcasters for it, you're darn right this is a story. If this had been live on broadcast, we're getting fined and/or threatened with license revocation.

Of course making a big deal of a word like ****'s stupid, but this guy and his following are the ones eagerly whipping up this holy war on "dirty words". Think of the children, Mr. President! You should forfeit your entire year's pay!

It was a photo-op. Can't he talk about thse things in private?

I couldn't give a **** about Bush cussin', but since we're on the topic:

"You can't be afraid of words that speak the truth. I don't like words that hide the truth. I don't like words that conceal reality. I don't like euphemisms or euphemistic language. And American english is loaded with euphemisms. Because Americans have a lot of trouble dealing with reality. Americans have trouble facing the truth, so they invent a kind of a soft language to protect themselves from it. And it gets worse with every generation. For some reason it just keeps getting worse."
- George Carlin

A "word" in itself is not bad. It's the meaning behind it that makes it "bad." The word can mean whatever you want it to mean. There's no such thing as a "bad word."

For instance, if two people are pissed off and one yells "****!" and the other yells "SHOOT!" ... what's the difference? They're expressing the same anger, they're expressing the same feeling with the same intensity ... the word shouldn't make any difference. It's how you say it, why you say, to whom you say it, and the context of the situation you say it in, that makes it mean what it does. But one word or the other isn't bad, in and of themselves.

Someone explain this to me: Why is the 'cussing' the story here, instead of the fact that a live mike was recording a private conversation between the president of the US and the British prime minister?

What do you think is going through Tony Blair's mind at times like this -- trying to talk Mideast policy with Bush, who's treating him like the help as he launches bread crumbs and bull**** swagger in response?

I've heard him on unknown open mike twice.

Twice, he's unloaded an expletive.

I guess we are fortunate he didn't say "****ing Arabs."

It's news because the President did it. If the President slurs his words or uses bad grammar, that too is fair game.

If he is a Christian, that it is legitmate to ask why he uses that kind of language.

My thoughts exactly. I wanted to hear what Blair had to say because I suspected it would be something reasonable. And Bush kept interupting him. Was anyone else surprised that these are arguably the two most powerful men in the world and they were basically having the same conversation many of us have had in the last few days--at the water cooler, over morning coffee? So basically the situation is exactly as it seems, and we are ****ing helpless to do anything about it because Syria, of all places, thinks we're a joke. I can't imagine why.

I was thinking pretty much that.

How ****ing lowbrow and unenlightening.

He's not a real Christian, that's part of the masquerade. He's been asked his favorite bible verse many times and is as blank as can be.

I don't have a problem with him saying "****," I have a problem with him finding a way, without fail, to humiliate his people at every turn. The cloven-hooved Barbara should have taught this asshole some table manners, among other things.
