Backyard cams

My brother in law installed a couple security cameras last week. It's a pretty safe neighborhood and I thought it might've been overkill, but it was a gift so I kept my mouth shut.

Gotta tell ya, though, getting the alerts of pets roaming the backyard has been fun. We got alerts when coyotes walked by on a couple nights. Now I'm hooked at seeing whatever critter crawls by when we get pet alerts.

If this is what getting old feels like, I'm cool with it.

Someone in the neighborhood asked me why I was so worried about crime, seeing as how I have multiple cameras mounted around the house. They don't understand it's the animals I am watching, not the non-existent criminals! Love seeing which feral cats wander through every night, along with the crows who do devious things and the squirrels and other furry friends. Best investment I have made.

Our kids went in to buy my wife one of those video bird feeders for Mother's Day this year, and she loves it more than any of us expected she would.

It compiles the photos and short videos into a "bird book" that she keeps on her phone. It IDs the birds and she keeps the best images and checks it every day. Even get some good photos of our dogs pooping in the background, squirrels eating at the feeder and deer roaming through the yard.

My daughter figured out her login, and is having a coffee table-type book made for her for Christmas, with the best images and most rare birds captured on it.
