I know this was mentioned on the lost children thread, but ... according to HLN. Other pilots took over and Flight 61 landed at Newark.

A plane in 1980 had all of its pilots and navigators collapse due to food poisoning. At least there was a passenger on board who knew how to fly a plane.

A 777 has a crew rest area. One article I read said they placed him there.

They were going to put him in an exit row seat, but he wasn't Platinum Elite.

I remember one of Kornheiser's old columns where he talked about his paralyzing fear of flying. He took a course to help get over it and everyone had to say their fears. I don't know if it was him or another person whose fear was that the pilot has a heart attack, and then the co-pilot doesn't know whether to help his friend or fly the plane and they crash.
