The flag-bearing students, if the story is right, were clearly trying to be disruptive. Wearing the flag like a cape is a little different than having a patch on your jacket. I can't find too much fault with the administrators, though maybe that's more of the parent in me talking than the free-speech lovin' journalist.

I think a blanket ban on the confederate flag is probably overbroad.

I don't think I need to tell you what kind of trouble -- real trouble, not "damn gubmint takin' away mah rahts!" trouble -- could occur in that school when groups clash.

Other banned flags include Union Jack/UK, German, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria - countries that still exist and against which there was a formal declaration of war.
I guess you could include Austria-Hungary, since they, like the Confederacy, no longer exist.

So merely displaying a Confederate flag with no words attached now rises to the level of "hate speech"?
