One month from today, I'm off to NYC for the first time in almost 12 years.
Couldn't possibly be more excited, so I've come to you for some tips. Mostly on food.

1) Best pastrami and chopped liver sandwich?
2) Best pizza?
3) Best hot dog?
4) Best acid reflux relief?

Also, I'll be back east for 12 days, if any of the SportsJournalists.com northeast crew wants to grab a beer or a game or anything like that, it'd be great.

Any other suggestions are more than welcomed.

Thanks folks.

I've been a vegetarian for 15 years, so it's a bit odd that I am adding this... But the place for hot dogs (and they are cheap) is Gray's Papaya. I think they are all the same, but the one I know from walking by and going with to with friends who were hankering for a few hot dogs at 5 a.m. is on Sixth Ave. & 8th Street. There is also one at Broadway and 72nd on the Upper West Side, right by the subway stop for the 2/3 trains.

GB, there's at least one extensive thread here with recommendations from locals and NYC veterans. That would be a good start.

C'mon, man. Dude's coming to NYC. The only place to get a dog is from the dirty water stands.

Mmmmmmmmm Sabrett.

It's probably not the best, but the only place I get pizza (aside from Grimaldi's) when I'm in NYC is at Sutton Pizza on 1st between 62nd and 63rd.

Dirty water hot dog stands. They're fantastic. Some of the best meals I've ever had have come from those stands. Couple dogs, a pretzel and a soda. Can't go wrong with that.

It's not an official NYC trip until I have a pretzel from said stands.

Dirty water dogs from any street cart that has Sabretts, not Hebrew National!

The best dogs, however, are from a couple places in Jersey that deep fry them. Nothing beats a ripper from Rutt's Hut or Hiram.

Of course. Especially if you get the vendor to slap up some onions in sauce, relish and ketchup on the dog. Oh yeah. That'll hit the spot.

Hmm. I'm covering a game tonight and there's a Sabrett stand right outside. Methinks I may have what may be called an idea for dinner...

A "ripper" refers to the hot dog's skin bursting from having been deep-fried. A "ripper" does not refer to what comes out your ass after you've eaten one.

Chinese food from Chanoodle on Mulberry St.
Cheesecake at Junior's.
I can't say I've ever met a slice in NYC that I didn't like.
