Even if the Orioles suck now, he had a little experience chasing the post-season. And he did win a ring.

Cal Ripken? Rob Picciolo is PISSED!

Here he is during the only at-bat of his Brewers career. Confused by the fact he actually got to play, he faced the wrong direction in the batter's box at Yankee Stadium and had to be called back for new pinch-hitter Ed Romero.

Thanks to SABR member Al Yellon for this note:

On Saturday, August 29, the Cubs completed their 6,981st consecutive game without being no-hit (and made it 6,982 on Sunday, August 30). The last time the Cubs were no-hit was Sandy Koufax's perfect game on September 9, 1965.

That breaks the record of 6,980 consecutive games held by the Yankees, who were no-hit by Hoyt Wilhelm on September 20, 1958 and then not again until the six-pitcher Astros no-hitter on June 11, 2003.

Koufax's perfect game was the second time they were no-hit in less than a month that season.

Impressive stat -- especially considering how awful some of those mid- to late-70s Cubs teams were. Plenty of good seats available at Wrigley in those pre-1984, pre-Harry Carey days.

I sat in plenty of those as a kid. You could switch to an open seat after every pitch and never leave the section you started in.

Same here, YGBFKM. In fact, one of the two foul balls I "caught" as a kid came when I ran down a Larry Bowa foul ball in the upper deck of Wrigley Field, about two sections over. Noboby but empty chairs to catch it.

(I was a bit quicker in those days, too!)

Joe Blanton continues to put together a solid second half. Great outing tonight against the Braves.

How many World Series did each team win during those respective streaks?

I know you were joking, but I believe it was nine for the Yankees (1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000).

Not a bad move by the Giants picking up Brad Penny. He's been awful lately for sure, but going back to the NL might give him a boost. Also, he can't be worse than the guys San Fran had starting in the 5th spot in their rotation.

Holy ****ing christ, Pirates.

You have a 35-29 record at home. How about winning a road game for a change?

Now that it's almost too late, the fire sale is finally on at New Comiskey Park.

Thome, Dye, Konerko listed as available in the story. Also, Heyman just tweeted, "an annoyed #chisox gm ken willliams has let teams know dye, konerko, thome, linebrink, dotel, others are available."

You knew it was coming at some point.

Under 2,000 at Great American Smallpark for the first game of a doubleheader with Pittsburgh.
