Bald or Gray?

You know, speaking from the other side of the age divide, this is not necessarily an either-or question.

Considering I'm 31 and started losing my hair in high school, I'd much much much rather be grey ... at least you have SOMETHING to work with.

As for heredity and hair loss, is dad's hair even a factor?

Based on everything I've heard/read, your mother's father is a better way to determine the odds of a bald future. At least this is true in my case, as my grandfather lost it at a young age and my dad (at 62) has more hair now than I did at 20.

This isn't directed at you but people always respond to my saying I have my father's hair with the comment that it can't be because mother's side controls it. It normally sends me into a rant on how the mother's side is the more dominant side but it doesn't mean it is always the mother's side. All it means is that on a majority of people get their baldness, thickness and all that from their mother's side. My brother has hair much more like the males on my mother's side. As I said before, I have my father's hair right down to the cowlicks. Sometimes that happens. Just not as often.

I had hair exactly like my father... for 27 years. Then it started to fall out just like everybody on my mom's side told me it would.

He has more hair than I do and he's 67.

I love a man with gray hair. I really, really do.

I think of it as silver, and there is just nothing sexier.

When my hair started going, another balding former co-worker said, "As a black man, I just thank God for Michael Jordan. You can thank god for Bruce Willis."

How about those that are "bi-curious" and plan on going gray while balding? LOL
covered that. :)

I got my first noticeable gray hairs in high school and was pretty much totally gray by 40. Never bothered me at all.

I love women who go gray, too, fwiw.

Also come from a line of premature grays. In high school, the girl behind me used to pluck the occasional gray hair from my head.

My dad was virtually totally gray before 40. Had an uncle who was pretty much completely silver before he hit 30. I've managed to keep a hint of black a lot longer than I thought I would, but also have had a good degree of gray much of my adult life.

I have no problem with my grayness, though. My standard line to people who inquire is ' it goes gray, but it doesn't go away'.

Can't wait for the day I go bald and I'm 28. I've had a buzzcut since seventh grade and I get my hair cut every other week because I hate when it's long. Unfortunately I will likely never go bald because my moms dad is 75 with a full head of gray hair. I shaved my head bald one summer and liked the way it looked, but my hair is so thick and grows so fast that it was a pain in the ass to keep shaved.

I shaved my head for many years and really regret it now. I had hair, and I wasted almost a decade of prime, non-balding time because of it. Kind of like that guy Elaine dated in Seinfeld.

I never understood why people who have no baldness issues did this. I couldn't if I wanted to, and I don't want to because - at least so far - there isn't a sign that I will lose my hair. Hopefully, that will be a good thing.

If you're bald, you have to own it. Get your hair buzzed high and tight. No respectable human being tries a combover or a toupee.

Unless you are Gene Keady.

I'll be 30 next month and I'm starting to see more gray. Still just a stray hair here and there, no patches, but it's noticeable. I'm going to let it go, at least for now, and see how it looks.

Baldness, on the other hand...I will fight it with every last shred of my dignity.

best to stop masturbating, then

"Frequent ejaculation causes baldness"
There are many misconceptions about what can help prevent hairloss, one of these being that frequent ejaculation may have an influence on MPB. Depending on frequency, it can raise or lower plasma testosterone.[30]

SST, you know me awfully well to be a random message-board poster.

I was at the NCAA Tournament several years ago and **** Weiss was interviewing Keady. From the tables one of the other NYC writers was mimicking the conversation where they were arguing over whose toupee was worse. It was pretty funny.

It is the stuff of legends. Two things Keady will be remembered for 1) six-time national coach of the year 2) the comb over

Whatever you do, don't buy the "hair in a can" stuff from Toppix. It doesn't work and is not worth the endless ridicule/laughter from friends and family. :D

Now you're going to have to rock it and make sure to include a pic. Need the laughter worse than you'll ever know.

I wish more men today had the guts to rock the head donut look instead of shaving the whole thing when the top goes.

My stepfather has been doing this for a long time. I've known him for only the last 30 years.

I originally did it when I enlisted, and then got used to how easy it was to take care of a buzzed head. When my hairline started to recede, I knew the sands in the hourglass were running out, so I grew it out to enjoy our remaining time together. When the bottom falls out, I'm going right back to the shaved head.

Guess that would be easier. I just know that I'm not going back to needing to march to the barber shop every 2-3 weeks. That and I'm going to celebrate the one tiny little advantage I possess in this life.

Sadly, when I began to go bald, I decided to go the hair transplant route.

But, because of the overall thinness of the hair on my scalp, the donor areas were quite limited.

So now, if I let my hair grow even the slightest bit, I end up with a mass of unruly curls on top of my head that smells like sea salt and vinegar potato chips.
