So I was flipping through the latest issue of Smithsonian and saw an ad for something called pre-ignition catalytic converter (and its lightweight cousin, a hydro assisted fuel converter). They're claiming some cars can get 100 mpg using this thing. So I checked out their web site, and to my novice mechanical mind, it all sounded plausible. To may skeptical journalist wannabe mind, though, it sounded too good to be true.
Anybody have any experience with these things?
