Anybody want to buy the shell of a barely used, slightly damaged Mac?

So I finally take my Mac in to the "geniuses" and the reply is as expected: Water damage. My options are as follows:

1.) Pay $750 to fix a computer that only cost $1100 to start with.

2.) Take out the hard drive and sell off the shell for parts. Apparently people do this on ebay or craigslist (crossthread?) for upward of several hundred dollars.

I'm leaning toward at least trying to sell it, taking the cash and buying a non-Mac. My two-month experiment with Macs is over and done, I believe.

Anyone else want to weigh in? Am I wrong? Or would you like to just buy it from me and save me the trouble of trying to sell it?

How did your computer get water damage? Would this not have happened with a non-Mac?

I have no idea how it got the amount of water damage it did, apparently. Perhaps my cat peed on it.

And yes, it would have. I'm not saying I'm giving up on Macs because of this. I just wasn't comfortable with it, and I'd rather lose a $500 PC I understand to water damage than an $1100 computer that perplexes me and makes me cry at night.

Your cat peed on your computer? This thread now has pages and pages of potential (not to mention the obligatory cat jack).

Obviously, the better of the options you posted was to sell the parts. Just a reminder--if you decide to sell any of the internal workings, be sure to delete all the porn and any documents or messages that could be construed as potential stalking or harrassment and result in a restraining order, no matter how much you plead with the judge.

Well, since I can't even turn the mofo on, the hard drive has to come out. The guy at the Apple store showed me how to do that. Then I just screw the little thing on under the battery and sell away, I suppose.

So in the last two days, we've read that IJAG's cat has sent her to the hospital and ruined a computer.

Jesus. And I thought my cat hated me.

Next up: Cat holds IJAG hostage.

I don't KNOW if my cat peed on it. I said Perhaps, you 'tard. All I know is they said there was 'massive' water damage, which wouldn't have happened from the four drops of water I spilled on the outside of the case. But since I lived alone then, I was grasping at straws.

I don't want to buy the computer, but I know have an urge to urinate on it.
