CNN reporting another public shooting, 6-7 people shot, in Jacksonville, near downtown. Gunman may be on the loose, or he's one of the injured.

Anyone know anything about it?

Oh my God those awful guns. How could they just go out there and do something like this.

Good thing he didn't have a bicycle chain or a board with a nail in it.

If you outlaw slingshots...

then only outlaws will have slingshots.

Surprised he wasn't stopped by any of the citizens legally armed with a handgun. With guns being legal, you'd think someone would have capped this guy before he got too many people.

CNN said the people at the second of the two places the shootings happened did shoot back. Maybe they saved lives.

Did they really? Well I guess my foot is in my mouth, but the general point of comment remains.

EDIT: I was just going on the posts in this thread when I made both of my posts in this thread. I just read the story about it and I'll change both of my posts. I initially thought this was a random act, but after reading the story it seems like this is a gang-type shooting (or at least between two rival groups, if that's not a gang-type area). Second it doesn't seem that the people who returned fire were probably carrying weapons legally and didn't save innocent lives by firing back.

From that story:
Residents of the area told the local station that they are angry that so much violence occurs in their neighborhood just east of the Haines Street Expressway -- less than 1 mile from two elementary schools.
Italics and bold is theirs, not mine. Petty, but I found that funny... in a corporate, self-aggrandizing sorta way.

No one seriously injured. Fight over a girl. Run-of-the-mill stuff.

Cable-news-created story.

they aren't capable of doing anything, until some whacko who is a by-product of a godless American culture that is going to hell in a hand basket picks one of them up and pulls the trigger

What I don't get is that's the same right-wing people who are so for guns are the same guys leading the 'war on drugs.' But you can make the exact same argument for why drugs should be legal. Drugs don't cause any harm, it's people choosing to take drugs that hurt themselves or hurt society. Drugs, in and of themselves, aren't bad unless you use them for what they're meant to do. Muchlike guns aren't bad, unless you use them for what they're meant for - and that's killing.

Why are drugs illegal if guns aren't? And why are we wasting so much of the country's money keeping drug abusers/dealers in jail, when you can buy stocks for Wal-Mart?

Wait a minute, are you saying God is a gun supporter?

I find that hard to believe. Seems to me that the whole "thou shall not kill" thing would place him squarely in the anti-thing-only-used-for-killing camp.
