Prompted by RJ's situation, but wanted to get some other opinions ...
My daughter is 13, in seventh grade and has always been a straight-A, perfect-attendance, great-attitude kid when it comes to school. Really irritates me at times as she lies awake worrying that she may have gotten a 98 instead of a 100 on a test.
But anyway, she comes home the other day and says she doesn't want to do her math homework because it doesn't matter, she hates the class, no one wants to be there, etc.
We ask her what's going on, and apparently the teacher's Instagram account is making the rounds in the class. We look, and the (public) account includes photos of kids' homework (with the name not visible), saying "I need a big raise to deal with these kids who can't even get the basic concepts right", and also includes things like "I hate my job", "I can't wait until summer", "Thank God it's Friday, I need some time alone with this" with a photo of her holding an assault rifle, and "Arming the teachers? I'm ready", with her holding a couple of handguns. Also some photos of her in a bikini, saying "I think my workout program is showing some results, how about you?"
I don't really care about the gun bikini stuff, but ridiculing the homework turned in and talking about hating school is apparently rubbing off on some of the students. Talked to my daughter and a couple of her friends in the class after seeing it, and they all said the same thing, "Ms. XXXXX doesn't want to be there and doesn't care, so why should we?"
What would your course of action be?
